The Roanoke Fall Festival Five Mile Race Committee is pleased to announce that a 5K walk event has been added to the schedule. “We’ve had several requests to add a shorter route for walkers and that’s what we’ve done for this year’s line-up” says Mike Derose, one of the race committee members. The 5 mile and 5K events are scheduled to start at 7:30 sharp with the 1 mile fun run/walk at 8:30.
Please note that the race registration has moved to Zent Commons at the corner of Main & 1st Streets, adjacent to the Post Office. Registration opens up at 6:45 a.m. with the race fee being $12 until 9/1/09 and then $15 day of the race. No credit cards accepted for race fees – checks and cash only.
The Five Mile run begins at 7:30 a.m. and runners and walkers will meet at Zent Commons 7:20 and will head to the start line as a group. The start line is at Main and 8th Streets (8th instead of 7th Street as it has been in the past). The course continues to feature a fast downhill start through the main street of Roanoke, then out to Arlington Heights subdivision for a short loop and then runners return to the finish line right on Main Street.
The 5k walk also begins at 7:30 a.m. and is specifically designed for walkers. This walk is an untimed event though the walker can keep track of the competition time clock themselves. The 5k event start line is also at Main and 8th Streets (will start with the 5 mile walkers/runners), turnaround is short distance past 800N on Roanoke Road and the finish line is on Main Street.
The One Mile run/walk begins at 8:30 in front of the Post Office and is open to anyone and everyone for a small fee of $3.00.
