July 10 marks the kickoff of the tenth year of Roanoke’s Farmers Markets. Held every Saturday from 8am to 12noon through September 12th, the market is a community event that brings neighbors and friends together and provides an opportunity to show off the delightful town to visitors who come to shop. Main Street is blocked off and lined with colorfully-topped market carts filled with fresh produce and unique goods to purchase.
Back this year are favorites: Hitzfield’s Seven Sons grass-fed beef and farm fresh eggs, Lion’s Club grilling whole hog sandwiches, Joseph Decuis soup and fresh baked bread, the Witmer Family Garden, and more! Each week there is a bake sale fundraiser and the vendors will also include some locally made crafts. The farm vendors will change throughout the summer as different vegetables and fruits become available. We look forward to berries, peaches, apples, flowers and heirloom tomatoes as the summer progresses. The market also features local entertainment each week and local artists demonstrating craft as pottery and wood carving.
July 10th also marks the kick-off of the Roanoke Striders at 7:30am from Zent Commons. The Roanoke Striders hold Saturday morning walks through the beautiful community of Roanoke. Sponsored by Powers of One Yoga Studio, their goal is to encourage residents to get up, get moving, and reap the benefits of an active lifestyle. A drawing for
free merchandise and coupons from local businesses will take place after each walk. To join in, just show up at 7:30am at Zent Commons on the corner of 1st and Main. For additional information please call Valerie at 494-0222.
